lunch skirt and i attended this book launch by one of our fave, most interesting persons, sylvère lotringer.

the reading was terrific. this is what it looked like afterwards.

i wish sylvere himself had talked more... maybe he did.

we had to leave after this photo was taken because day jobs.

Total taser classic! Louis Gossett Jr. at his finest (and Jason Gedrick too, probably, I don't know if was in other films.) If you haven't witnessed this shit, jam it immediately.
Thanks to the terrific digging talents of Ms. Leah Yeppi, I am now the terrified owner of the Original Soundtrack sheet music book!

 The line up features wicked jams by such artists as: Dio, King Kobra, George Clinton, Adrenalin, The Jon Butcher Axis, and other notable _____'s.
The cover also reads "PIANO/VOCAL/CHORDS CONTAINS PROFESSIONAL FAKE PAGE ARRANGEMENTS". I have no clue what that means. Fortunately, I also don't know how to read music. Win/win.

5 favorite jiang shi films (mwhahaha)

(mwhahaha) tis the season for scary shit and jiang shi (chinese vampires) films are by far my favorite type o scary (and funny) movie.

a lil background: (jiang shi are more like zombies than western vampires. due to rigor mortis, they hop or fly around in order to move. they usually appear dressed in qing dynasty garb, and are combated by a taoist priest (generally played by yam ching-ying) who puts them to sleep by placing spells written on pieces of yellow paper on their foreheads. other things used to fight them include: male virgins, sticky rice, chicken eggs, dog blood, and lots of sammo hung action.)

toshiro mifune. bad assin'...

Toshiro Mifune-- a true Japanese bad-ass. In light of recent events in Japan, I found myself watching a lot of his work...

His qualities were best exemplified in the films of master director Akira Kurosawa, such as Seven Samurai, Rashomon, High and Low, Yojimbo (which was remade by Sergio Leone as Fistful of Dollars), Sanjuro, and many more (he appeared in over 150 films in his career).

Here's a montage I found of him hurting people and looking like a bad ass...

 Sanjuro is a personal fav. I fall asleep to it many evenings...not that it's boring, it's just that the pace of the foreign language dialogue is extremely relaxing in the film. 

 Bold and expressive with seemingly little effort, not so unlike American bad-asses like Clint Eastwood and Humphrey Bogart (who's biography, Tough without a Gun, by Stefan Kanfer is totally rad from what I've skimmed of it..).

 Maybe Mifune can be called tough without a sword...

sean "sci-fi" connery

uhm...movie shit: ok, so i admit, we have netflix. blah, whateva... it's pretty rad in a town where video rental has taken a corporate color to an opaque degree.
it's cool for reasons like this...
i try, and succeed, at finding terrible movies, and recently i've come across a few sean connery fronted sci-fi titles that are simply terrific (terrible and terrific are interchangable terms for me, as many already know).
let's start with 1973's "Zardoz"...... directed by john "Noxzema" boorman, this post-apocalyptic gem has our favorite scotsman running around in a smashingly revealing red leather get-up, chasing after a giant floating stone head. it looks great, but from what i can tell, the story line reads like a bad RPG. incredible!
there are many amazing quotes, many of which have been picked thru the years by outsider sound-making acts..."the gun good...the penis is bad...", etc.

next is "Outland"

, a more discernable low point in the post-Bond career. In 1981, somebody directed this, and actors went along with the idea. the result is a (quite) depressing inter-Sol knock off of "High Noon", which apparently won a Saturn Award...whatever that is. i love it, and that's what i'm trying to convey. my favorite part is when his wife leaves him, and then he talks to peter boyle. i would do the same...great minds think alike.

play with your hairs. i love this song. this excerpt is from the "getting any?" (1995), starring takeshi kitano. kitano (also known as beat takeshi) is a very funny man. i think this is funny and i think he is funny. he also happens to be a brilliant film maker, actor, writer,and artist, with a taser factory career and life story to back that statement up. but for now, play with your hairs.
