last pulls of the yr i believe. "car fighter" actually comes in the t-shirt format, but as a pedestrian in LA (which is why this piece resonates so strong w/ me) that doesn't wear t-shirts too much, i talked my way into a print version.

-a fresh copy of erin k. drew's super spooky "erotic art magazine", fucking amazing.

also, this recently framed up a set of mini-polaroids by the extremely thoughtful anne peterson sobel, straight outta doha.

primo example of my really bad photo taking skills, but everyone who comes thru here is all like "oh wow!" or just like "wow!"

just a taste of some super additions at table-blue studio, llc., and a reminder to keep postal w/ pals.

my favorite type of research... over the top data collection, analysis, and theoretic perspectives on a subject that seemed so whatev's and trivial like a blink ago.

encompassing locale, age, gender, smiling, and even head tilting. this goes above and beyond. #taserfactory for f'ing sure.

i CAN stop smiling

i've been a velocity girl fan since like '95 or...so, i have no idea why i'm posting this video. super weak when compared to anything from the noisier, shoe-gaze, love-pop gem copacetic, or the slumberland release before that, but i like this video at the moment.
maybe it's that i work on the outskirts of the photo industry i think it's fun, or my current obsession with post-murphy brown ladies styles, or the retro-'50s guy thing that reminds me of the mid-90's, ren + stimpy(?), being stoned on my parents' couch and watching conan o'brien...when it was new.
sarah shannon was also my dream girl, though i think bridget cross was better.

experimental bed-making

the experimental bed-making book... an oldie but goodie! this beauty was brought to life several years ago by the collaborative efforts of goatmother industries, j. shelley (smallkit) harrison, and william winchester claytor, but saw a second run a few months back here in LA. 

i had the honor of helping out with the binding of the 2nd book, which i believe is now in the loving claws of some angelino.

the descriptive camera!

instead of bitching about how i can never seem to make it to any screening of christian marclay's "the clock", or migraine headaches (as originally intended), i thought i'd come through with something positive...
so smile, and say gorgonzola for the descriptive camera, from matt richardson. 

this is absolutely taser factory. with a capital T. instead of an image, this beautiful device produces a description of what ever it is that one is shooting! it cleverly explores a very interesting, and possibly burgeoning concept...like maybe a camera that automatically "tags" people, places, and things via whatever technology from whatever huge tech firm that nails it first and puts it our device-hungry hands for around $300. i don't think this exists yet. does it?


here's the rundown of it from the matt richardson website:

The Descriptive Camera works a lot like a regular camera—point it at subject and press the shutter button to capture the scene. However, instead of producing an image, this prototype outputs a text description of the scene. Modern digital cameras capture gobs of parsable metadata about photos such as the camera's settings, the location of the photo, the date, and time, but they don't output any information about the content of the photo. The Descriptive Cameraonly outputs the metadata about the content.
As we amass an incredible amount of photos, it becomes increasingly difficult to manage our collections. Imagine if descriptive metadata about each photo could be appended to the image on the fly—information about who is in each photo, what they're doing, and their environment could become incredibly useful in being able to search, filter, and cross-reference our photo collections. Of course, we don't yet have the technology that makes this a practical proposition, but the Descriptive Camera explores these possibilities.

new year, new project - rebel hands press.

today, instead of reflecting on 2011, which would undoubtedly be marred by negativity and dwight yoakam videos from youtube, i've opted for taking an initial glance at what 2012 has in store. 
the perfect fix for a new year is a new project. enter rebel hands press...


during the summer months of last year, jeff moerchen, david smith, and i put together a shiny little project revolving around the film Point Break, which culminated in a book titled "the Point Break is..."

the success and excitement from that project poured over into the founding of rebel hands press:
Rebel Hands Press is an independent publisher of books, and possibly other items, with a leaning towards art, photography, and great ideas. Established via phone, Rebel Hands exists in the roaming mind and pockets of Jeff Moerchen (Right Hand) and the cramped Los Angeles studio of Jeremy Kennedy (Right Hand). When the idea is right, we do something.


so this year we'll be moving comfortably forward with this venture. in the time leading up to now, we've been able to reinforce our catalog with 2 new books, along with the "the Point Break is..." project. a totally taser way to start things off.

Zephyr is an attempt at continuous photographic seeing, a document of memories. It is not cohesive, a timeline, or thematic but a document of what I see as a photographer. Similar to the blur of flipping through channels of a television these images are nonsequiturs that if strategically organized gain significance. Simply put these are pictures about taking pictures.

bloomington based photographer jeremy hogan is always doing wonderful things. for example... here a feature he got going for a chinese art magazine titled: vision. it's a rundown on the bloomington, indiana music scene with jeremy's always amazing photos and words. this photo of (knee shy) made it in, along with lots of friends and stuff! pretty rad.
