The Indestructible Cell Phone: Sonim XP1

February 12th, 2008 4:54 PM | by Christen da Costa

Sonim XP1
You ever have those moments where you just wanna smash your cell phone? Perhaps you got fired or stubbed your big toe. Outbursts of anger aren’t uncommon, but getting shot with a Glock 9mm is. Say what? Sonim has built a virtually indestructible cell phone. The XP1 has endured being in cased in cement, frozen, attached to fireworks (wonder if they tried an M80) and yes, you guessed it, shot with a Glock 9mm pistol. The Triband GSM candybar handset comes in black, yellow, or gray and includes walkie-talkie functionality in addition to a few other features. The Sonim XP1 is currently on show at the 2008 World Mobile Congress where they’ve invited the media to test their claim. According to the product page, they’ll do a ’same day in store replacement’. Anyone know where they sell these things?

the action is go...

so... here's some snaps of some action prepared for "4 Cell". not this friday but next (2.27) @ fuller projects here in bloomington. if anyone has noticed that i've been recently lacking in conversational value, here's one of the reason...
this has been a blast to create so far, and speaking of blasts... tomorrow i get to go out to the country to bust a cap or 2 in some phones! fun!

scarcity of tanks--west coast style

awesome live action here from s.o.t.
the line up of this group is always in motion. i believe this ensemble was assemble for the west coast only, with the addition of steve and weasel walter from xbxrx and lead matt wascovich getting old school socal. with jack brewer and mike watt on bass! a rad combination of energy. this totally taser factory jam proves that there is still areas to expand on that first blast from the old sst crew...

have a seat.

Pyramat S2500-W
wireless sound rocker
this is one of the best thing i've experienced so far this year. i've always poked fun at "gaming" chairs, but now i'm sold. i mean there's a subwoofer in your back! it's really loud and i'm certain that i need 5 or 6 of them, as many as possible because you can link them together. also you can play almost any sound source through them! ipod, cd, blah blah...

plus, the best part is, it's wireless! the possibilities are endless with these fucking things. or maybe...i've started with the ideas. results soon.

i believe that all new homes should come standard with soundproof bath doors, so one could throw up as much as they like without being heard by friends or family.

Teen Idols--Charlie White

(referenced from designmate.blogspot.com due to flashback/revelation)...

back in the day, shane would sometimes make very similar pieces when we were fucking up sales ads & catalogs.

i would ask him to throw them out because they really scared me.

however, i love shane & charlie white.

check out more C.W.

thanks jam!

get it right!

I thought i told you to wreck my seapit. The one with the trapdoor in it. That was yesterday and still there is no wrecking. Where have you been? I saw you as I was leaving for work two days ago. I know you came by to pick up your rack.

in the spirit of vincent gallo, i will now interview myself in regards to this event.

jk- i understand that this month, january 2009, contains 5 fridays?
jk- that's correct.
jk- now, which friday does your upcoming exhibition fall on?
jk- (clears throat) that would be the 4th friday. roughly 2 weeks from now.
jk- what type of work should we be looking forward to?
jk- mostly paintings, and an audio installation i'll be doing with john.
jk- how is this new work shaping up?
jk- i wouldn't know. i haven't even bought the canvas yet.

jk- thank you, that's great.
